NAthens, Ohio

Ohio University presidential chief of staff Becky Watts has announced she is taking a position with the Ohio Board of Regents and will be leaving OU at the end of May.

In a letter to faculty and staff, OU President Roderick McDavis states that Watts will begin her new role as associate vice chancellor of P-20 Initiatives with the board on June 4.

Serving as McDavis’ chief of staff and special assistant, Watts often is quoted as OU’s chief spokesperson in the news media.

Trustees to students: Real sorry, but we’ve got to hike your tuition

Before voting on a 3.5 percent tuition and general-fee hike last week, members of the Ohio University Board of Trustees apologized profusely to a small group of students who came out to protest the increase.
In the end, however, the Trustees did vote to approve the hike, as well as increases in room and board rates, which will take the yearly cost of tuition above $10,000, and make attending OU for a full-time student who lives and eats on campus costing over $20,000.
“I want you to know that we see you – we do see you,” Trustee Sandra J. Anderson said during a board meeting Friday, prior to the vote to approve the increase. “Once upon a time, many of us sat where you (now) sit… We want you to know that we do not take this lightly.”
