Big K.R.I.T. brings Southern style to Southeastern Ohio
After taking a seat on a couch next to Mississippi rapper Big K.R.I.T., he laughs and jokes about what he views to be the ultimate approval of an artist’s “making it:” playing the Late Show with Dave Letterman.
“If they let me do my show on David Letterman, I’m gonna be doing my show on that,” K.R.I.T. says. “The music won’t change, just the platform that they put me on.”
K.R.I.T., a recent Def Jam Records signee known for his bombastic Southern anthem, “Country Shit,” rocked his trademark single and many others for last week’s Sibs Weekend Concert. With every concert performed he hopes to find himself as an artist, which involves “making it” to the top in his own unorthodox way.

Jéan P secures opening mic for Big K.R.I.T. show
Ten emcees took the mic Saturday night to compete for the chance to open for Big K.R.I.T. and Dom Kennedy next month, and when the smoke cleared, only one was left standing — Jéan P.
“The crowd got me excited and I feel like a champion,” Jéan P said. “A weight was lifted off my shoulders, and the fact that I’m opening for the guys that are on my iPod every day is an honor.”
After a late start, the contest, hosted by the Black Student Cultural Programming Board, went on without a glitch. Contestants struggled to get audience members excited and to impress the judges, who commented on stage presence, style and lyrics.

DJ iShine and the rest of the gang from 1SIDE Music Entertainment will “drop it like it’s hot” Friday to celebrate the recording label’s four-year anniversary.
The legacy began during DJ iShine’s — otherwise known as Christopher Summers, a senior studying music production — senior year of high school after he taught himself to emcee following a high-school prank.
“In high school I wasn’t really good at anything. I wasn’t the star jock and I wasn’t really interested in acting either,” Summers said. “I just accidentally got involved with music when I snuck into the recording studio at school and recorded a song and a beat and I decided to go off with it.”

Big K.R.I.T. to headline Sibs Weekend
This year, Sibs’ Weekend will be more than just the typical three days full of art exhibits, parties and sporting events. It will be a chance to jam with the beats of the up and coming rapper Big K.R.I.T.
The Black Student Cultural Programing Board announced the concert earlier today via its Twitter account. Last year’s Sibs Weekend concert featured Big Sean and Tyga.
Big K.R.I.T has collaborated and opened for noted musicians including Wiz Khalifa, Matt Miller, Ludacris and Chamillionaire. Big K.R.I.T’s talents became noticed in 2010 thanks to his first mix titled K.R.I.T Wuz Here. A month later the rapper was signed and owned a label with Def Jam Records.
