During the first weekend of freshman year, few people are actively looking for a long-term relationship. But for one Ohio University couple, that is exactly what happened.

After a three-year relationship ended, Meg Nicol moved into Read Hall as a freshman in September 2010.

Now a sophomore studying biological sciences, she said finding the perfect guy was far from her mind and that she was just looking to have fun in college. But, on the first day in her new dorm, she met someone she didn’t want to lose.

22 years later, couple still dines together every morning at OU Inn

When Jim Bruning retired after 35 years of working, he decided to give his wife a gift — anything she asked for.
“All I want is to have breakfast with you at the College Inn every day,” Marlene Bruning responded.
So, every day for the past 22 years, the Brunings have eaten breakfast together at Cutler’s Restaurant in the Ohio University Inn.

Couple has celebrated more than 50 Valentine’s Days

In their 50-plus years of marriage, Juanita and John “Ralph” Shaw have been never missed a Valentine’s Day together. And, barring some unforeseen circumstance, today will no different — even though they live miles apart from one another.
For the past seven years, Ralph Shaw, 82, has maintained the couple’s Jacksonville home while Juanita, 90, resides at the Lindley Inn Assisted Living Community in The Plains. Juanita suffered a stroke about 15 years ago. Ralph took care of his wife for the next eight years, before she made the move to the assisted living facility.
Despite the miles between them, Ralph visits his beloved every single day, and today he will come bearing a Valentine’s gift for his wife — yellow roses.

Spousal Support: Coaches find comfort and understanding in significant others

Coaching collegiate athletics is anything but a typical 9-to-5 job. The hours are long and late, intense and unforgiving. There is little time off and even fewer sick days. The position is rewarding yet can become unreasonably harsh within the blink of an eye.
When weight training conflicts with picking up the groceries or a recruiting trip falls on an important birthday, there has to be someone to pull everything together.
Those late nights that Herb Brooks, coach of the 1980 United States “Miracle” Olympic champion hockey team, made famous aren’t a figment of the imagination or embellished in the corresponding film — they’re a reality.

Time: Single and too busy to mingle - Schedules, schoolwork supersede socialization

With relationship statuses posted on Facebook for the world to see, college students have become acutely aware of where they fall on the relationship spectrum.
The range of statuses —in a relationship, it’s complicated, engaged, in a domestic partnership or married — can be seen on the Facebook pages of Ohio University students.
For some, though, single is the only way to go.

The city of Nelsonville is offering couples a way to ditch the traditional Valentine’s Day celebration and opt for an evening on the historic Hocking Valley Scenic Railway Saturday.

The 2nd annual Valentine’s Chocolate Choo-Choo will travel through Nelsonville’s main drag Saturday. The event is dedicated to the revitalization and preservation of the area. Train rides on the scenic railway brought more than 35,000 visitors to historical Nelsonville last year.

“Our Valentines Chocolate Choo-Choo is not only a great way to start off Valentine’s Day by doing something different, but it is also the only opportunity to ride the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway at this time of year because it is closed until Easter weekend,” said Lynn Garbo, director of Nelsonville Main Street.
